My name is Viktor Evtimov and
this summer I took part in the Yale Young Global Scholars program organized by
the Yale University. It was a two week long program and featured lectures and
seminars on three topics- Politics, Law and Economics.
For me this was the first time
in the USA and my expectations were definitely exceeded. Before going to Yale
in New Haven, I spent some time in New York and had the chance to go
sightseeing which was wonderful because I had never seen structures as big as
the Rockefeller Center and the Empire State
Building.
After that I traveled to Yale
for the two-week program Yale Young Global Scholars in Politics Law and
Economics. We were lectured by sterling professors from Yale such as Akhil
Amar and heard his interpretations of the American Constitution. We also
participated in seminars which were small groups where we were able to discuss
assigned readings we did prior to the program.
What I also found very enriching
was the communication with the participants in the program. There were two
hundred people from all over the world and having the opportunity to exchange
ideas with individuals from different cultures really broadened my horizons. I
made some good friends from Africa who shared with me that there is a lot more
about the continent than we see from the media.
Overall my experience in
this very new environment taught me a lot about cultures and countries, and
helped me choose my field of academic studies. It was like experiencing a
snapshot of life in
college and I believe this is the summer program’s most valuable feature.
